The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) has recently published a comparative report on the use of robots in industrial production in countries around the world. According to their information, the use of robots with artificial intelligence (AI) technology has increased significantly in recent years in the manufacturing sector worldwide. Currently, South Korea has the highest average use of robots in industrial production globally. However, China holds the first place in terms of the number of robots used.
According to the World Robotics 2024 report published by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), as of 2023, an average of about 162 units of robots are used in the industrial production or manufacturing sector worldwide for every 10,000 workers. Whereas in 2016, the use of robots in the industrial production sector worldwide was only 74 units for every 10,000 workers.
According to their information, in 2023, South Korea ranked first in the world in terms of the use of robots in the industrial production sector. The country used 1,012 robots per 10,000 workers. Moreover, Singapore ranked second with 470 robots per 10,000 workers, and China ranked third with 429 robots. However, when considering the number of robots used in the industrial production sector, China is the only country in the world that has installed about 300,000 units of robots and robotic arms across the country.
Moreover, to bring mobility to the industrial production sector, Germany ranked fourth with 429 robots per 10,000 workers, Japan ranked fifth with 419 robots, and Sweden ranked sixth with 347 robots. At the same time, Denmark, Switzerland, America, and Taiwan ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively, and used an average of 306 units of robots per 10,000 workers in the manufacturing sector: 302 units. 295 units and 294 units, respectively.
According to the report, in 2023, the Netherlands used an average of 264 units, Austria 245 units, Italy 228 units, Canada 225 units, Belgium 224 units, the Czech Republic 207 units, Slovakia 201 units, France 186 units, Spain 174 units, and Finland 173 units. However, no South Asian country made it to the list of the top 20 countries in the world in terms of widespread use of robots in industrial production.
In fact, in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, countries like China, Germany, South Korea, Japan, the USA, and India have recently expanded their industrial production capacity several times or are on the path to do so, despite employing relatively few workers. And its adverse effects are now starting to be directly reflected in the recruitment of workers in industrial enterprises.
According to predictions made by the world’s leading global technological development research organization, millions of workers employed in several important service and manufacturing sectors around the world may lose their jobs by 2030 or later due to the widespread use of advanced robotics and artificial intelligence technology. Again, in order to survive in the competitive market, in the hope of higher profits, or as part of a strategy to reduce production costs, new recruitment in these sectors may decrease at an alarming rate in the future.##References: Wikipedia, International Federation of Robotics.
